Camp Spotlight: Quinshad Davis

An undrafted rookie out of North Carolina, the 6 feet 3 inch, 220 pound wide receiver Quinshad Davis is an unknown and a long-shot to make the 53 man roster. However, after a few successful days of training camp, it’s time for Lions fans to get him on their radar screens.

Here is a highlight tape, he can even throw the ball around a little bit!

The North Carolinian doesn’t have elite burner speed with 40-yard times ranging from 4.5-4.7s, instead using his hulking frame and long arms to create separation from defenders. Davis also fractured his tibia in 2014, but played 2015 injury free.

Davis was highlighted as a top performer in a supposed rough day for receivers on the first outdoor practice of camp by Michael Rothstein of ESPN. He had three notable catches, all of them touchdowns in various situations; 1 vs 1, 7 vs 7, and full team. His first was a one handed grab thrown by Jake Rudock, the second a tipped pass where Davis held his concentration and hauled it in, and a going to the ground reception in the end zone from Dan ‘The Man’ Orlovsky

Quinshad Davis is admittedly a longshot to make the 53-man roster. Last year the Lions only took five receivers and four of those slots this year already look to be taken by Golden Tate, Marvin Jones, Anquan Boldin, and T.J. Jones. If Davis continues to make plays then he can at least force a tough decision for Quinn and company. His real test will come during the first two games where the fans and coaches will see if Davis is the real deal or just a practice hero.

His main competition will be Jeremy Kerley, Andre Caldwell, Andre Roberts, Jay Lee, and Corey Fuller who is currently injured. It’ll be an uphill battle, but the practice squad is also a possible home for him come final cuts.
