Darius Slay Lead the Charge in Players Returning to Practice, but Some Bad News Follows

Detroit was without its starting cornerback last week and he returned to practice this week. A good sign but it doesn’t guarantee he will play. Detroit still has many players limited, some new on the list and an illness keeping Reiff out of practice fully. The positive side is they gained a player back fully, so let’s take a look at what is going on in Allen Park and see what these players are up to.

Darius Slay Returns to Practice, but Limited

After missing practice last week, Slay has returned to a limited portion. Like stated above, this is good news but this doesn’t mean he will be back to play against the Vikings this week. Haloti Ngata was limited all week last week and didn’t play, so watch for Slay to be limited all week and possibly a game-time decision on Sunday.

DeAndre Levy and Riley Reiff Held Out of Practice

DeAndre Levy was out again which doesn’t come as a surprise. He has a slim chance of playing this week as signs point to a return after the bye week. Riley Reiff was limited in the game against Houston due to an illness. Now it seems like the illness has kept him out of practice, so watch him the rest of the week but he might have another limited action game.

Ziggy Ansah, Marvin Jones, Haloti Ngata, Theo Riddick Some of Many Players Listed as Limited

Three of the four players listed here all played last week. Expect all of these players to play again this week unless their injury gets worse. Haloti Ngata should be back this week as it’s the third week of his injury. He was limited last week, so limited again isn’t a shocking move.

Taylor Decker Limited with Rib Injury

Taylor Decker is dealing with his first injury of the year. He played the entire game last week, so if the injury occurred during then. He wasn’t affected by it and this shouldn’t cause him to miss a game – expect Decker to play.

Adairius Barnes Limited Again in Practice

Barnes dealt with an ankle injury a few weeks ago and now he is back on the injury report. This time it’s his hamstring and this comes after Detroit added Johnthan Banks to the team in a trade on Tuesday. Barnes missing anymore time isn’t good for the Lions secondary.

Corey Robinson Back at Practice Fully

After missing last week, Robinson is back at practice fully. This is good for depth for Detroit. If Reiff needs to take some plays off with his illness, Robinson can come in to fill his spot. Also on power run plays Robinson can go back to lead the blocking charge as a tight end.

Brandon Pettigrew and Jon Bostic Training

In non injury report news, Brandon Pettigrew and Jon Bostic were both seen working with trainers on the sidelines of practice Wednesday. This could mean a possible return after the bye week is possible. Both won’t return this week, but after the bye it could be possible to see them out there.

Minnesota Vikings Injury Report

Jerick McKinnon missed practice on Wednesday with his ankle injury, but is expected to return to action this week against the Lions. Three Vikings are in concussion protocol, defensive tackle Tom Johnson, linebacker Eric Kendricks and guard Alex Boone. Guard Zac Kerin missed practice with a hand injury and defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd missed practice with a knee injury. Those that were limited in practice were cornerbacks Xavier Rhodes, Captain Munnerlyn, and Marcus Sherels with a calf, foot and wrist injury respectively. Safety Andrew Sendejo was limited with a ankle injury and linebacker Anthony Barr was limited as well with a groin injury.

The Vikings have been banged up on the offensive line, but missing some of their defensive players is not a good sign for the team coming into a big game at home against Detroit after their offensive coordinator resigned.
