Ep: 205 – Lions Get Savage – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case bring you a beast of a show before we take a week off. We also bring The Riz, Jeff Risdon along for his segment, fan favorite, Riz’s Wisdom where we decide whether he was right or wrong again…

Preseason Match-ups Announced

We begin the show with a discussion about the newly announced pre-season games. We’ve got the teams, places, and date ranges to get you ready for the most important time of the football year. Well, it’s important because football finally returns. Its fine that the games are meaningless, its football!

Next we discuss Kelly Stafford’s saddening diagnosis with a non-cancerous brain tumor. Our thoughts are with her and we hope for the very best for her. Too sad, and too young a woman to have to deal with something like this.

Detroit Lions Podcast Looking for Help With St. Jude

After that we talk about the great progress made in raising money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We released our transparency report for the period spanning March 12 through April 2nd.  We were able to raise $3,548.69 in just three weeks. Through today we’ve been able to pass the $5,000 mark. We have 3 weeks left from today, please take part and help the Detroit Lions Podcast to reach our $10,000 goal for the children and families being helped by St. Jude. Come to our website and make your donation, bid in the auction, or pick up a shirt where $1 from each sale will go to St. Jude.

From there we discuss the CJ Anderson signing with Case for the first time. We wanted to take another look at the signing in “the light of the day”.  Then we move on to the NFL CBA talks that occurred today and the NFL’s statement on them. We weigh in on which issues might be most important in those conversations for both sides.

Packers Press Problems

We also discuss the in-depth article that appeared on Bleacher Report about the Green Bay Packers the specifically called out Aaron Rodgers and his effect on the team. As much as we relish in anything that pains the Packers, we also look at the other side of the story and what frustrates all of us at the Detroit Lions Podcast so much about stories like these.

We then move to our Twitter mailbag to answer your Lions questions. Big thanks to @BigBitingPig, @bcoozno@Twotimesjoey, and @Samzon68 for your submissions!

We close things out with Jeff Risdon. He weighs in on the Lions draft position trade scenarios. Could we move up? Down? What would we be looking for if we went either direction? Good conversation about moving around in the draft, position value, and what different team situations mean for their draft movement strategy. Also, we discuss Riz’s prediction about the Lions picking up Tom Savage.
