Scott Mitchell Responds To ‘Bye Bye Barry’
In this episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris speaks to former Detroit Lions quarterback Scott Mitchell about his career, the Detroit Lions organization historically and in the present, and of course, we discuss his response to the ‘Bye Bye Barry’ documentary released earlier this week. Mitchell had a social media post in response to the documentary go viral in which he excoriated a number of Detroit Lions players and staff as well as Detroit-area celebrities, Jeff Daniels and Eminem. Mitchell spends an hour speaking with Chris and goes through his reasoning as well as sharing stories and context around his response. He discusses what it felt like for a player, and what he would say if he could speak directly to Detroit Lions fans.

When Scott Mitchell put the ‘Bye Bye Barry’ documentary on blast, we knew we had to dive in and understand exactly why. Mitchell doesn’t disappoint. He provides a thoughtful, introspective look at why he responded the way he did. He also provides a heartfelt apology to Jeff Daniels and Eminem about his reaction to them. To say that Mitchell had a difficult time in Detroit is an understatement, even as he set many records and had much success in a Detroit Lions uniform. Some of those old wounds are still apparent on a man who gave everything he could, believed he could bring Detroit the Lombardi Trophy and Super Bowl victory it so desperately wanted, and wishes he just had a little more time to have done it. Mitchell is a complex individual, he never wavered in his attempt to bring a championship to Detroit, but you can tell the way he was treated by fans still stings.
