If it can happen, I would expect it to happen. It does take two to tango. And, surprisingly, from from what I gathered from a couple of sources yesterday, there are a lot of teams that just don't want day three picks because there's no really good players. Like, you can there's the difference between the guy you're gonna draft to the sixth round and the guy that you're gonna sign after the draft, there is none. So, like, the last few, like, two rounds, basically, are completely superfluous for NFL needs, based on what I'm hearing anyways. So

And it was validated last night for me after the draft, in a conversation with someone that, for and then it's not it's not it's not just the Lions either as as I talked about. Like, the teams would rather just not have those picks this year, honestly. Like, there's not a lot of point to it.

Speaker 5: Because it when when you're a draft analyst and you deal with a lot of people who wanna be, for lack of a better word, and then day three exposes who knows who what they're talking about and who doesn't.

Speaker 5: And I have always loved it. I've always, you know, gravitated towards that level of player, the middle round guys, the late round guys. It's I I I thoroughly enjoy it. And especially because for most of those guys, they know that they might not have gotten drafted. They know that they might have one shot, and this could be, like, the the crowning moment of their career because they might not last through the summer.

Speaker 5: And, I, I have an affinity for that level of, you know like, these guys the guys who are getting drafted tonight, even if they wash out very quickly with their first team, they're gonna get another shot somewhere else just on the basis of what dude was a second round pick. Even though he was terrible, like, we're still gonna sign him and and give him another shot. And if you're a sixth round pick, you might not get that luxury.

So and when you're talking about trade values tonight, and we'll let we'll let him speak, but, there is a definite tax for moving up that's higher than it has been in the past, which surprised me quite frankly because I thought this would be a buyer's market.

Speaker 5: So I got the player, and and I got, like, I got from a couple of different Houston people that they were very interested in Caden McDonald. And the fact that they got him here, that's that's good for Houston. He he is exactly what they need. They have never replaced DJ Reader, who left, like, six years ago. Like, they have never done that, and, this this guy could do it. That's sort of the the player that he is. So So So, anyways, back to the back to the trade thing. So they gave up the equivalent of an extra fifth round pick in using these, Fitzgerald Spiegleburger, point chart, draft value chart. If you use the Rich Hill one, they gave up a fourth round pick. The cowboys, to move from 12 to 11 for a player that Miami wasn't going to take, gave up an extra third round pick of value to move up. It was over 20% of the draft value of the pick. That is extraordinarily high. Now if you don't need that much, if you don't care if you really like the player, it doesn't matter. And I think that last night with both the trades that you saw that were like that proved that going and getting your guy is worth paying a little extra for. Like, you're good with that. And when folks are when you're doing your trade evaluations, when you're using the trade simulators or when somebody like me or Rogers or Schlitt or Colton, and we suggest a trade, and you're like, well, that'll they'll never take that. That's paying way too much. Well, that don't not not not so fast, my friends. What's what Chris, what's the first rule of sales? You don't ask, you don't get.

Speaker 5: If you're the team that's that's, that's selling your pick, you might as well ask.

It's interesting how the NFL works and the whole trade scenarios, and you're in, you're out, all that plays out is is pretty crazy. But I I think they got their guy at 17110%.

It's certainly not a steadfast thing. So they gave up the equivalent of an extra late fourth round pick to make that happen.

Speaker 5: good with that. He's he's he's a he is a high floor player. I do think that, he's he's he has a higher ceiling than than Danny Dennis Sutton does too. So as far as, like, Gabe Yakis is probably sexier, but also more variable. Like, you might get Gabe Yakis being a better player, but you also might get him where he's not gonna get a second contract with Detroit. I don't see that level of low with with Eric Moore.

Well beat athlete with long powerful arms, strong closing burst in space, good finisher in the backfield, excellent initial burst that can get into the blocker's pads quickly, has some variety to his outside pass rush, has flashed the ability to shed hit with his hands and shoulders, positionally aware, appears to have a good football IQ, has experienced dropping and in short area coverage situations. The cons, as we come back from ad here, run defenses range from ineffective to apathetic, often takes off the feet often taken off the field in obvious run situations. That's that's true. Speed beyond two, three steps is below average for his build in the backfield. Average Ben turning the corner, a little bit of tightness in his hips will get ridden around the edge if he doesn't win off the snap at times. And that that happened, if you watched the Indiana game, that happened a lot to him. Goes through the bull rush to his inside too predictably, and stays blocked in the run game, though, at the senior bowl. That was a different story. And his senior bowl week was astonishingly good and solidified him as a top 50 pick.

Mention how much more productive he would have been without the third and fourth etches getting an entire series worth of run after a decent sustained try by offense. But, I was talking to Hank Fraley and what just a great dude getting to talk to him and and all that stuff. But But we got to talking about Pene Sewell, and I I just had asked him. I go, alright. I got I just gotta ask. Like, what is it working with a guy like Pene Sewell who is such a freak athlete, so strong, clearly gifted? How much work is it to, you know, kinda put into to developing him? And he goes, not as much work as you think, but he was not as good as you think. And he's one of those players that is just a freak, And we're blessed to have him, and he makes my job easy because he learns so quickly. And he he just has all of the tools and physical ability that most of these guys don't have. And I always will remember that and just talk an offensive line play with Hank Fraley and, you know, his kids go into my high school and small world. It was very, very cool. But, Pune Sewell is an absolute stud. And, Blake, we should be very happy that Blake Miller gets to play with him.

And that means something not to not so I mean it does mean to Bene but to Blake Miller, for him the pride that he's gonna have going into that locker room, into that building, and to be the best version of himself. Like, if if football didn't matter to him, he could have left Clemson. He could have went somewhere else. It mattered to him to just be there and be consistent with that team. 54 games in this new era of college football at one school that didn't win a lot of football games. It's odd, man. It's very odd. And Clemson had very high, you know, standards as a team and and a lot of predictions thought, hey, this team was gonna go out win a national championship and they they have it. Now, sure, you could talk about him at pick 50 or pick 92 or one twenty eight or whatever pick you wanna use in the in the second and third round. But him at 17, I would have not been okay with. But taking a guy like Blake Miller who is safe, he's going to be reliable, dependable. I mean, we're talking about the next five years. We're not talking about just a year. We're talking the next five years that a half where are you gonna be in five years? Where is this team going to be in five years? So think of it in the in the big scheme of things, but also, I mean, short term, these are guys that are gonna help them now. Like, Derek Moore could very well get seven or eight sacks next year. It's very possible playing with this defense. I mean, Tylik Williams, Alim McNeil, Aidan Hutchinson, and Derek Moore, I I really like that. I'm sorry. I really like that. And they've got all this capital the next two days to to put together something and they're probably done today. So the rest of the capital is gonna come tomorrow.
