Daily DLP: Who’s Left in NFL Free Agency After Bitonio Retires? – Detroit Lions Podcast

The Daily DLP dives into the remaining NFL free agency market after one of the bigger names on the list retired. Browns LG Joel Bitonio hung up his cleats on Tuesday, effectively ending any chance for the Lions, or any NFL team, to secure his services. It was not an unexpected retirement, as Bitonio had clearly dropped some weight in the offseason and had openly flirted with being done.

With Bitonio gone, the list of available NFL free agents gets even thinner. For the Lions, it’s about signing veterans who might be in the market for a Super Bowl chase. A name like Cam Jordan makes sense. The 37-year-old former Saints DE would make a nice fit as a situational player and a mentor for some of the young Lions, Aidan Hutchinson included.

Beyond that, most of the prominent names still available are well past their useful years. That includes oft-injured Joey Bosa, Jadeveon Clowney and Taylor Decker. That’s right, the longtime Lions left tackle is the overwhelming best OL available, and he’s not coming back to Detroit.

Bitonio’s retirement also brings up the memory of a Cleveland team that featured one of the best offensive lines in decades, but having a good line can only do so much.
