Speaker 3: Hey, everyone. Jeff Rosen with the DLP back with you. It's been a couple of hours since we recorded the last DLP on Monday, and things have changed quite radically. I promise you that we would come back on and talk about if, when anything happened, and something big has indeed happened in the Terryon Arnold case. The lions have said enough of this crap. And per their own Twitter account, the Lions announced today that they have released cornerback Terryon Arnold. That's dated at 04:00 on, Monday, 06/29/2026. Just from a quick look at this, I'm recording this. It is right now 04:09, and there's already been 35,000 views of it. Big news, obviously, that the lions are washing their hands a bit. So to recap, from earlier today, Terreon was in court in Tampa. And while the judge reduced the or, I shouldn't say reduced, placed bond at $1,000,000 when he was being held without bond, on his felony charges, regarding an incident in Tampa, that he apparently was at least involved in, allegedly orchestrated all kinds of, like, the there's kidnapping charges, there's armed robbery charges surrounding, an alleged, assault on people after luring them to, oh god, luring them to a place with the promise of sex with a woman who has since pled guilty, and, instead, the Arnold and his camp Arnold wasn't directly involved in the assault part of it, but, there were the the people who Terry and Arnold believed had previously robbed him at an Airbnb and robbed things of his at an Airbnb. Yeah. That's no longer the Detroit Lions' problem. They have decided to cut ties. They didn't wait for the NFL to put them on the exempt list. They didn't wait for him to get back to Detroit. He's gone. It's done. It's abrupt. It's not without some expense. As of now, the lions are on the hook for let me find this here. This is from, over the cap. A dead salary cap charge of 7,310,000 in 2026 and 1,810,000 in 2027. They actually lose a, 3,400,000 in cap space for the 2026 season. 3.91, overall. He had two years and $4,800,000 in guaranteed salaries remaining on the steel. Now that all this can change because if the league does wind up suspending him, the guaranteed portions will be avoided. And I'm gonna guess that the lions aren't doing this without at least some tacit arrangement with the NFL that, like, hey. We wanna be done with this. Come to our aid if we need it in terms of, like, the cap ramifications for it. Now I understand that that's, you know, that's speculative on my part, but I can't. Well, actually, I can imagine the lions just like, I'm I'm we're done with this. We're done with this guy. It's not worth it for us anymore.

Speaker 3: That is that is one way to, flush the turd, so to speak. And I am kinda grateful for that, honestly. I am happy that the Lions do have some standards and hold their players to them. Allegedly violated their standards. The Lions saw enough. And in their own investigation, which is certainly more in-depth than you or I or anybody, not employed by the Lions has done, convince them that there's enough here going against Tarion that it's time to make him a next lion, and that's that's where we're at. That does, just spitballing ideas of what comes out. Yes. That will, in fact, create an opening on the roster spot. The lions are, like, there's not it's a skeleton crew at in Allen Park right now. The players are on vacation. The coaches are on vacation. It's not an easy time to, like, sign people. Trading camp doesn't open for another, three plus weeks. So there's no urgency to get that done. But if there's something somebody that wants to get in now, it does theoretically I talked earlier about how it was a difficult sell to a a a potential free agent or a potential trade target that, hey. We're gonna get you as insurance against if Tarion doesn't come back. But if he does come back, you know, then we don't really need you. That's not a very appealing sales pitch. But now now that it's gone, now there is a clearer path to playing time starting perhaps. Although, just looking at the the cornerbacks who are available on the market, there's not a starting corner. There's not a quarterback out there who is better than Raq Yesen or Keith Ebony or, Roger McCreery. They could challenge them, but based on how they've played recently and, a lot of people bring up Marshawn Lattimore. He does not pass the no turds test. Go look up what he's done, unfortunately. And, by the way, Washington fans will tell you to a man that he was one of the worst signings in the history of that organization, and they have had some real doozies there. So keep that in mind. What happens with Terry on now? His lion's career is over. It's, it's it's shocking news. It's, excuse me, it's very disappointing that it ends this way. That I'm not saying that I'm not I like that the lions have done it, but from just a a broader picture, I was very hopeful about Terry and Arnold turning the proverbial corner this year on the field. And I know. I know. We've heard that about Jeff Okuda. We've heard that about other players in the past, and it didn't work out. I get that. Y'all, I get that. But what I saw from Terryon last year before he got hurt gave me reason to believe that he could at least be DJ Reed's equal, and he could have co number twos, which is better than a lot of teams have. That's not the best, but it would have been fine. And for him to lose his NFL career over this fiasco that's apparently of his own creation, it's sad. It's disappointing. I like Terryon. I liked Terryon going into the draft. You can go back and check it. I I had Quinlan Mitchell rated higher, but I did have Terryon rated higher than Cooper Dujean by a little more than a little bit, actually.

I'm sure there will be a lot of thought pieces and podcasts produced about the utter embarrassing failure that the Detroit Lions draft class of 2024 is. Oh, by the way, that draft was in Detroit. That was the one where Brad Holmes was at his, villainous best, in terms of how he handled his approach to it, and thus far has not worked well to be kind. And that's, we'll we'll have time to talk about that. That that's gonna be for a live show, that we do because I want I want I do want fan input on that as well. But long and the short of it, Terry and Arnold no longer a Detroit lion. His legal problems have caused the lions to cut ties with him regardless of the financial penalties that they may accrue or incur from releasing him. And that sorta tells you that the team was no more. No. We're done. That's an emphatic move, and, I applaud them for doing that. Because as I wrote over the weekend, even if he's cleared, there's already been a significant portion of this fan base and a significant portion of this media, by the way, who will never get over that he's charged with felonies. Again, even if he's cleared of them, it's gonna hang over him, and it will be every question. It's and I I've I've this before with other with other situations around the league. It's hard to be a teammate. It's hard to be a coach when you're always walking on that eggshell. And I think, I think it's for the best. Honestly, I really do. As for what happens with the court case, well, we're gonna we're gonna we'll keep you abreast of what's going on with it, but it takes on a little less, urgency for the lions now, now that Tarion is, in fact, where he's at. So that's where we are. Had to update the daily. I can sort of ignore the other one, but, unless you're curious about the court case because we did talk a little bit about that. Again, I would strongly suggest that if you're interested in the legality and, the, the legal basis behind all the the talk at the hearing today in Tampa, check out the Detroit News. I believe it was Cara Barr. Did a really good job of writing that out in, explaining the legal portion of everything that happened in fairly plain speak, and I greatly appreciate that. So that's it.
