Speaker 4: Hey. Good morning, everyone. Jeffresson here. It is draft day. We made it to the draft. Your daily DLP. It is Thursday, April 23. Happy draft weekend. I'm fired up. Been up since 04:47AM. I love this time of year. It's great. I'm going to apologize in advance. It is a beautiful day here. I'm I'm in home in West Michigan, and it's really nice. And, like, everybody in my neighborhood is either mowing their lawn or leaf blowing right now. So if you hear extraneous background noise, I apologize. I actually waited out until my immediate neighbor, got done. Gotta get things done. We've we still don't put our snowblower away. You never know. You never know. Let's talk about the draft. My goodness. My drafts galore came out. I posted mine yesterday at the Detroit Lions podcast for the lions, all seven rounds. You can check it out there. Written content, go to Detroit Lions podcast. You can also find it on my social media. Twitter. It's always gonna be Twitter to me. Sorry. Blue Sky. My Facebook page, which is Jeff Riesdon, Lions NFL. You must be my friend on Facebook to check that out. I put all my work there. I also did at Real GM a first three round, and I didn't do trades at any of these. And just to review real quick, my first round pick for the lions was was Blake Miller. Offensive tackle, Clemson at 17 with no trades. Now thought it would be interesting today to round up who is getting mocked to the lions by whom. Now I wanna start it with the national guys, and a lot of these mock drafts have been out for a while. Some of them did update, after, I know, like like, Dave Bruegler and, Melkheimer both like, they published their final mocks before the Giants Bengals trade happened and moved number 10. So, like, I I get why they had to do some modifications there. But most of them came out earlier this year, and I love that trend, by the way. So somebody who's been doing this for a very long time, it used to suck being up until 11:55PM the night before the first round. France would finishing it off and sending it away so it would get published before midnight, because that's the deadline to get into the the mock draft contest, which I really don't worry about much anymore. I'm much more concerned than get my evaluations right than get my picks right. I hope hope you understand that philosophy. Some of the national picks. We'll we'll, you know, go various people here. Dane Brugler, suck with Caden Proctor. There's a lot of people that are on Caden Proctor. Peter Schrager on Proctor. Matt Miller from ESPN is Proctor. Albert Breer from SI took over MMQB. By the way, I will I'll I'll give Albert a shout out. He's in Allen Park a lot, especially in the off season. So this isn't some, like, completely disconnected guy, and it's very clear that he has a strong relationship with Brad Holmes. Just throwing that out there. Apropos of nothing. I like Albert. Who else was that? Joe Marino from the Draft Dudes on, lockdown draft is on them.

Speaker 4: Lance from NFL Network, nfl.com. Lance does a lot of the if you go to nfl.com and you read their draft skinny and scouting reports, he does a lot of those. Chad Reuter also does a lot of those. Chad is one of the people who is one of the rear dogs who's on Spencer Fano. He has Alliance treating up for Spencer Fano. He's really the only national guy that I looked up and and look. I I looked at I got 30 or so names written down here, which is far from a comprehensive list, But, he's the only one national that had Fano. There are quite a few on Blake Miller. Actually, not not that many. Todd McShay, probably the most notable one. But there are, the SiriusXM NFL radio guys, Ed Miller. Yeah. Stick in national. A lot more on Monroe freely. And I will go back to what I said in my final mock. I leave it out pretty specifically. If Monroe Freeling is there, he will be my pick as the lion's pick, but I don't think he's lasting the 17. If he's there, he is the pick. I flocked to Blake Miller because of that, because it wasn't there. Daniel Jeremiah was on. Mel Kiper was on. Let's see. Mike Renner from CBS, former DPFF.

Speaker 4: Was on Freeling, Jordan Reed. So there's a lot of lot of national inkling towards Monroe Freeland. But you're you're just getting the the general picture here. Everybody, pretty much, except one, I'll talk about him in a second, has them going offensive tackle, and nobody really knows which one. That checks out. The only person who has them going different in the first round that, again, of the people that I looked at is my friend Ben Solak from ESPN from Winter Ringer, who has them trading back two spots and taking. Good for you, Ben. The original. Like Solak, he's a fun guy. A peculiar eater, but a fun guy. Let's look at some of the local guys. Again, house divided here. I'm on Freeling, if not Freeling Gun Miller. Give him 20 men who works for the Lions. That's Monroe Freeling. As does Nolan Beyonce at the Detroit News. Nolan's a fun guy. Good dude. Dave Burkett from the Free Press has Caden Proctor. Brett Whitefield from Fantasy Points, who is a Detroit based guy, Lions fan. I've known Brett for a long time. He's also on Caden Proctor as a projection for the Lions. Colton Palcy of The Athletic, in their, athletic beat writer mock draft, their board played out funky kind of the way that when Gray and Bish and I did our live mock that was at Tuesday night? Monday night? Tuesday night? One of those nights. They this week freaking blur us, guys. So I apologize if my calendar's off. The board played out very strangely for us, and it also played out very strangely for them such that he was able to get Spencer Fano at 17. That seems extraordinarily unlikely to me, but stranger things have happened. Stranger things have happened. Ben Raven from m live. He's on Blake Miller. I have not seen Eric Schlitt from Private Detroit, produce a final mock yet, but I know that he is a big Blake Miller fan. We have talked about that, personally, and I agree with him that Blake Miller is a incredible grit fit for the Lions. Oh, wait. He I I understand he was putting out a grit, like, top 25 or 50 players who fit, like, the lions scaling grit index thing. I have not checked that out yet. I will be checking that out, and I would suggest that you check that out too because, Eric and I believe it is, Anthony from, between the numbers, are are have been have worked very hard on that. So, you can check that out when I check it out, and that'd be nice. So what do we have here? Whole lot of nobody knows what's going on, which is fun. I like it that way. I do. I go back to, twenty sixteen, the first Bob Quinn draft. Did a we did a live draft with with with Big Drew and Jim. Jim Gosco, now with 971, the ticket. He was at Current Rapids at the time. I was part of that show. We did a live draft show. I believe it was at Pappino's in Grand Rapids. I think it was that year. And I said when we went on the air that day, the draft pick is either going to be Taylor Decker or Ryan Kelly. I don't know which one, but it's gonna be one of those two. And, like, everybody in Lion's Land knew it, that it was gonna be one of those two picks. We knew the next year I knew the next year by the end of the Senior Bowl week in January that Jared Davis was going to be the pick. Like, they were not good at concealing things. I hate it. I like having the mystery, you know, building the mystery, the old, you know, the Sarah McLaughlin song. I I I like that song. I like I like I like that being I'm one of those weirdos. Like, even if I'm even if I'm seeing what somebody is giving me for Christmas, I don't wanna know. Like, I I can block that out. I'm like, oh, yeah. I I I did notice it, but but thank you. That's it's great. That's that's where I'm at for this. I'm ready to be excited, pulsated, surprised, anxious. I got all those emotions going on. Now I would be remiss if I did not bring this up here. Last night, as I'm going to bed, it's about 10:15, get a text from someone. This is the text from the person who told me last year that right about that time that Tommy Williams was gonna be the Lions pick. One year earlier, he had texted me that the day before the draft and told me that they were moving up for Terry on Arnold. I believed him then. I did not believe him last year.

Speaker 4: He told me that the lions are very aggressively looking to move up, and it's not for an offensive lineman. And I said, oh, they're going to get Caleb Downs. He's like, not so fast. It's a specific scenario that he laid out to me, and I shared it with Russ Brown. I also shared it with somebody who doesn't cover the lions, who I trust, and it's all time stamped so you can check this stuff out. But it would be them moving into the top seven and taking an edge. And if that happens, it's great. And I and I'm of the opinion that and I by the way, I was on with Woodward Sports, with Sean Bellegio, who I freaking love. I go to Sean a lot for giving me my radio career effectively. Thank you, Sean. And, shared with him, teased at it, of what it could be. And as I said there, as I told Sean and the crew, I don't expect it to happen, but I'm not gonna be surprised if it happens. And I think that's probably the best way to go about it. Now my my overarching philosophy, and this is this is me talking, about moving up versus moving back. Gonna talk about this a little bit on word two, but I'll expand upon it here. What have we heard about the twenty twenty six NFL draft for months? Not great at the top. It's not deep. Draft really falls off after about one fifty, one sixty. I want to move up within reason. I don't want more picks in this draft. It's a bad draft. I certainly don't want more day three picks. God, no. They're not making the team anyways. There's not that many spots. There just aren't. You can get you can get guys in to compete for spots. If you're drafting a quarterback in the fifth round, is it realistic that he's gonna beat out Rakus in to be the number four quarterback this year? And when you're picking him in the one seventies, I would hope not. Otherwise, why in the world would you sign Rakus in? Right? So I don't want to move back and get extra picks. We sent extra picks this year. Now if somebody wants to move up from I use the Texans at 28 as an example. It's a hypothetical here. If they wanna move up and they wanna give you 28 and a first or a second next year in some package of, like, a third round of this year, they have three of them, I believe. I'm okay with that. Like, that's fine. But I'm not trading 50 to get two thirds. I'm not really interested in that. I would rather have a better player that I can get at 50. Now having said that, it is a pretty flat board from 25 to one twenty five. There's gonna be a lot of personal preference by teams, schematic fits, personality fits, things like that that will, that will shape Friday and Saturday, respectively. So I'm not opposed to them moving up. I'd rather them keep their first round pick next year. But if they wanna trade seventeen fifty and one of those fourth rounders to go and get their guy, a lot to give up. But in a in a draft that is not deep, as I told Balichan, take a bigger bite out of the apple than more bites out of the apple. That's that's my general philosophy. I know a lot of people disagree with that, and that's fine. I do think that they are more apt to trade up than trade back, however, with 17 specifically. As far as the rest of the league, it's fun looking at all of the mock drafts and how many, like I'll I'll use the Panthers as an example. Like, every single beat writer has a different player mocked to them. Like, we're we're right with Detroit. Green Bay, they don't pick until Friday. Like, their people are all over the place on where they're going. Chicago. See a lot of people in the Chicago media who are like, we're taking this guy. No. No. We're taking this guy. No. Like, I almost wanna tune in to six seventy to score. Make him want the house just to hear the consternation going on today. Uh-oh. Very unpredictable draft. As far as, like, other predictions, anything like that, I

Speaker 1: And we're live on match day as Doug reaches for a Buffalo wing. He's got it. Oh, and he's gone for a can of Pepsi too. What a finish. There's no doubt about it. It just tastes better. Matchdays deserve Pepsi.

Speaker 4: Think you're gonna see some trades. I think Arizona's looking to move back. Cleveland's certainly looking to move back. Kansas City is looking to move up. Dallas is looking to move up. Philadelphia, there's a lot of talk that they are looking to get in front of Detroit specifically so they can take Caden Procter. I kinda buy that too, honestly. That is a pairing that we heard a lot of initially in Indianapolis. And if you will notice, my final mock draft this year does not differ that much from my post combine mock draft. I have tried to stay more loyal to the information that I got from talking to people in person. Now some of the information has changed based on talks that I've had at pro days with people and after pro days and around pro days. Breakfast before pro days. Fun time to get information. Very fun time to get information. So some of those things have changed a little bit. But by and large, you know, with Detroit, offensive tackle or edge, I really don't see anything else in that first round even if they move up. Now if I were moving up and Caleb Downs is there, and he might be, I have a hard time passing on that, but I that's not the player who I was, tipped off that the Lions would be moving up for. We'll see we'll see if it even happens. I just thought I'd mention it because it it's from someone that I do respect and trust his word. And, thought to throw it out there. As far as the draft, Chris and I are tentatively scheduled to be on on YouTube here live tonight. We will see how closely that works out. I do have an engagement that I have to do that will, might keep me from being there for the first pick, but we will I will certainly get in. We will try to have guests come in, and we will not tip picks. I am with Peter Schrager on this. I don't like having the picks tip. I used to love knowing. I'll go back to I forget what draft it was. It had to have been before twenty two thousand eight, two thousand seven maybe. And I knew, like, really early on that the Carolina Panthers were drafting Jeff Ota. Like, this this is how far back that goes. And I tipped it on Twitter as soon as they went on the clock and got a shit storm. Like, dude, stop. I don't wanna know. Like so I have generally shied away from doing that even if I do know the pick. Pick. And I will just straight up tell you this year. I don't know who's going. I don't think anybody knows who's going. This is gonna be one of those years where if you're looking at the mock draft competition, it's gonna be more luck than anything. I don't expect that my mock draft is gonna be accurate because I didn't put any trades in it. I do think there's gonna be significant trades going on tonight, but we'll see.
