It's fake. First off, if you're gonna tease that a player's coming, put his name in the title. One of the one of the clear signs of this AI generated or completely derivative is that there's no name of the player. I'm gonna try to help you all here see through the BS, see through the AI crap because there are a lot of great uses for AI. This is not one of them. That's Schulbatonio, longtime Pro Bowl guard for the the Browns, but, parenthetically, one of my favorite NFL players, and has been for some time. He is still a free agent. Now there's a couple things that are wrong with this. I'm I'm gonna try to impart upon you some critical reading skills because it's easy to get excited. Like, you see Joel Petrone, you see the line like, oh, yeah. Yeah. Give me that guy. He's awesome. Well, read the copy. Detroit Lions invite five time all pro OG to rookie mini camp. Now you might not know that Joel Bittoni was not a five time all pro. He is a two time first team all pro. The other times he's been second team, which technically doesn't really count. It should, but it doesn't in the pantheon of, like, the how they handle things with the hall of fame. But I wouldn't expect you to know that. But I would expect you as a Lions fan who pays even moderate attention to the world of sports that the Lions are not having a rookie mini camp. They're not. They canceled it. That's been widely known public knowledge. One of the reasons why you're not seeing me and other people reporting from rookie mini camp, they didn't have one. I know the Buccaneers are having one this weekend. The Texans are having one this weekend. They have one day open, and they're already looking forward to to getting their their teeth into David Montgomery down there, to see what they've got and everything. But by the way, it's it's not mandatory that veterans show up for these things. That's the other part of it. Joel Bantonio, accomplished player, sparkling veteran resume. Think he needs to show up to try out at a rookie mini camp? Really? That's for the Jamarco Jones of the world. He was at Detroit's last year. Guy trying to, you know, a veteran who's, you know, veteran journeyman, been hurt a lot, trying to latch on somewhere, anywhere. It worked for him till he got hurt again. That's not who Joel Bantonio is. That's not who Bosa is. That's not who Von Bill like, not who any of these prominent names that are out there that would help your team definitively in 2026, they're not showing up in a rookie mini camp for tryouts even if the Lions had one. The same site and others that are proliferating close to it, and they they pop up. It's like it's like whack a mole. You know, you you you report and block one one day and they reincarnate the next. Are the same people that were promoting the Frank Ragnow? Was that rookie mini camp and was looking to get back you know, give back to the lions? That couldn't be further from the truth. Even if there were a rookie minicamp, Frank Ragnall would not be there. That's not how it ended with Detroit, unfortunately. It sucks. But

None of that's true here. So I want to stop people from falling for this stuff because it's it's annoying for those of us who do cover the team and try to be legitimate. It's annoying for fans who have to shoot down you know, your buddy comes up to you and is like, hey.

They don't really need them right now depending on how you feel about the left guard situation right now, but they've got a lot of combatants in in already. I still think Christian Mahogany is gonna surprise a little bit. He did not look the same when he came back from his injury last year, and I'm hopeful that he will do more in his shot at redemption. So just wanted to get that out there. Again, if you see hooey like this, like trust your instincts on these things. Does does it look real? Does it sound real? The one of the big keys, if there's no name attached, if if it's looking to, detail and comment, no. That's that's not how that's not how reputable things work, unfortunately. There are some there now I will say there are some reputable sites who will get click baity with the title for lack of a better and I don't mean that necessarily as being, like, a negative or a bad thing. Like, that's that's what we have to do. We want you to get we want you to click on it to read it or watch it. Like, that's that's an unfortunate way that, this the the SEO practices of that the Internet follows and algorithms follow, that is sort of a necessary evil. But when you're not seeing anything, you know, names in the tag or reported by ESPN or reported by what Dave Burkett, Nolan Beyonce, Ben Raven, like any Colton Pouncey, any of the people that you trust and respect and know. Be skeptical, please. Please. Now there is news going on with a veteran who's gonna be at least approaching a return. And I don't particularly care whether Aaron Rodgers plays with Pittsburgh Steelers again or not. You probably don't either. But the whole hand wringing concept this has been going on for months. I was in Pittsburgh in early March, and it dominated the local sports conversation then.

Speaker 4: Is he coming back? What are we gonna do? What, like and it it got me to thinking. We haven't had a problem like that in Detroit for so long. Since 2009, when they drafted Matthew Stafford in Detroit, we've known that he was gonna be the quarterback. We've known that Jared Goff was gonna be the quarterback ever since. We don't have to worry about who our starting quarterback might be. We're not being held hostage by a veteran, a narcissistic veteran, you know, media whore. We're wondering what's gonna happen next and what's gonna and how it like so I've said it before, I'll say it again. When you don't have a quarterback or know who your quarterback's gonna be, there is no oxygen for anything else on your football team or your football discussion because it's the most important position in professional sports. And if you're going into May or May 8 now, and you don't know who your quarterback's gonna be, with very, very, very exceedingly rare exceptions, your team's probably not gonna be very good. And that's not something that we have to worry about in Detroit. Heck, we know who our backup is, Teddy Bridgewater. Will Luke Altmaier push him for that? I hope so. I don't know so. I I like what I saw from Altmaier at Illinois. There are certain things that I I do see that he can do. The the primary thing, I think he can come in and run the Jared Goffins to the best of his abilities. They won't have to change anything up. They can make the same play calls, and Altmyer will be able to operate those. I wouldn't expect him to be anywhere near as effective as Jared Goff, but that's why he's a backup. That's why that's why Jared Goff's a pro bowler. That's why he's great. But I thought that was worth mentioning just a little bit because, you know, you're gonna hear a ton of Aaron Rodgers stuff going on. Like, will he come back when they're like I love that we don't have these problems in Detroit. We have our flaws as a team and as a sports city, no doubt, but that ain't one of them, and that's a very good thing. Wanted to end on a sad note. That, ladies and gentlemen, is Pat Caputo, veterans Detroit sportscaster. Pat passed away. He's 67 years old. Died of pancreatic cancer, which is a terribly painful way to go. Just awful. Fortunately for him, it went very quickly. He was on the air in November, and it's May, and he's no longer with us. And that's that's sad. I lost my father to, aggressive cancer on New Year's Day this year. And I I saw the hell that he went through, at the end, and I can only imagine what it was like for Pat and his family to to go through that and to, you know, suffer through that as a as a family. And it's it's horrible. It's hard. My one appearance that I've ever had in my life on ninety seven one the ticket was with Peccaputo. It's going back a little bit. Might have been, like so I don't know his entire sports as again, I I I don't live in Detroit. I I don't do Detroit radio. So I don't know his, like, entire, like, you know, chronography of where he was at. But I think it was right after he got on. And he was courteous to me. He asked good questions, and then he let me answer them. There are too many sports analysts, sports radio people who media people for that matter, all around the country. I get this as a radio guest all the time, who ask a three minute question and give me thirty seconds to answer because they like to hear themselves talk. That was not Pat. My understanding is he didn't have a lot of guests on, so I've I'm pretty happy about that. I've never met him in person. I do know several people who did know him, and they were crushed yesterday, as the news got out that that Pat had passed. So a very sincere, heartfelt rest in peace, Pat. And, the Detroit sports world, it's gonna miss you, sir. Job well done. Prayers up to your friends and family and all those who love you and work with you. Rest in peace. Give a little moment of silence there. Moment of silence don't normally work on radio very well, but, Pat, you earned it, buddy.
