Daily DLP: Talking OTAs, Lions schemes with Scott Bischoff – Detroit Lions Podcast

The Daily DLP welcomes Scott Bischoff of Bish and Brown to the show to preview this week’s Detroit Lions OTA sessions.

While the action in Allen Park is extremely limited, there are still things we can learn about the Lions from the Phase Three workouts. We talked about some of the different players and schematic gleanings that might be revealed during the first session open to the media on Friday. From the sequence in which players take to the practice reps, to the health conditions and physical makeups of some of the players coming back from injuries, Risdon and Bischoff break down what we hope to learn. Players like Alim McNeill, Terrion Arnold and Kerby Joseph all earn special mention.

One of the biggest things to look for is new OC Drew Petzing. How much influence will he wield on Dan Campbell’s offense and base sets? There are a lot of wrinkles to sort through, at least potentially.

A key position battle that hasn’t been talked about enough yet is the punt returner. With Kalif Raymond gone, there is a real wide competition to fill his talented shoes. That could be the path for rookie Knedrick Law to make the 53-man roster. Where do the rest of the rookies fit? Bischoff reveals his (hopeful) master plan for Skyler Gill-Howard and Tyre West on the defensive line, as well as his enthusiasm for fifth-round CB Keith Abney.
